The strong ties between Costa Cruises and Italy will be further strengthened on 7 November 2014 with the christening of the company’s new flagship – Costa Diadema in Genoa. She is being built at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice), with a total investment of around €550 million. The project is employing approximately 1,000 shipyard workers plus another 2,500 employees in associated industries. The benefits in terms of employment extend beyond the yard, particularly with regards to the fitting-out of the interiors involving around 400 contracted suppliers, most of which are Italian firms.

Costa Diadema will be the ‘Regina del Mediterraneo’ (Queen of the Mediterranean), with routes offering a special focus on Italy calling at five Italian ports (Trieste, Naples, Genoa, La Spezia and Savona) during her inaugural month in November 2014.
