New flagship will be christened in Genoa on 7 November 2014.

The christening event of Costa Diadema, the new flagship of Costa Cruises will be held in Genoa on 7 November 2014.

Genoa, where Costa Cruises was founded and has its headquarters, will host local dignitaries, industry representatives plus Costa Diadema guests who will be able to book their participation at the event and either the vernissage cruise, departing from Trieste on 1 November, or the official inaugural cruise, departing from Savona on 8 November.

The christening event of Costa Diadema reasserts Costa’s attachment to Genoa, where the company is expanding its presence by opening new offices for about 250 employees in Piazza Piccapietra, close to the present headquarters of Costa Crociere. The new offices will be open for business in summer 2014.

Costa Diadema is currently being built at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice) and will be delivered on 30 October 2014. The flagship’s debut will last one month and include the vernissage cruise on 1 November, the christening event on 7 November and three inaugural cruises on 8, 15 and 22 November. The new flagship will be exclusively sailing within the Mediterranean as Costa’s ‘Regina del Mediterraneo’ (Queen of the Mediterranean).

The vernissage cruise will start on 1 November from Trieste, where the ship will stay until 1pm the following day, and then call at Dubrovnik, Corfu, Malta, Naples and finally Genoa on 7 November in time for the Christening event.

After the vernissage, from 8 November Costa Diadema will depart for three seven-day inaugural cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea which will include stopovers at Savona, Marseille, and Barcelona with additional calls at Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia with the chance to visit two of the most popular Italian cities in a single cruise – Florence and Naples.

From 29 November and for the rest of the 2014/15 winter season, the new flagship will leave from Savona on seven-day cruises in the western Mediterranean Sea, calling at Marseille, Barcelona, ​​Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia on each cruise.

Costa Diadema will be an ambassador for “Made in Italy”, visiting five Italian ports during her inaugural month: Trieste, Naples, Genoa, La Spezia and Savona.

Costa Cruises has invested a total of around €550 million in the construction of Costa Diadema at the Finantieri shipyards in Marghera. The project is employing approximately 1,000 shipyard workers plus another 2,500 employees of allied industries. The benefits in terms of employment extend beyond the yard, particularly with regards to the fitting-out of the ship’s interiors by around 400 contracted suppliers, most of which are Italian firms.

Costa Diadema (132,500 gross tonnage and 1,862 guest cabins) will be set apart by its superior comfort combined with top quality entertainment, food and wine. The new flagship’s interiors will be even cosier, spacious and more modern both in terms of facilities and layout of her public areas. Costa Diadema will also offer large, split-level rooms which directly overlook the sea and are conveniently interconnected, evoking the atmosphere of a buzzing seaside resort.

Food & Wine

Gourmet lovers will be able to savour a myriad of different dishes in seven restaurants, offering new tasting treats from all over the world: the ‘a la carte’ Club Restaurant, the Samsara Restaurant, the Japanese Teppanyaki and the Italian Pizzeria, as well as the delicacies of quality Italian and Mediterranean cuisine of the two main restaurants and buffet restaurant.

Guests will also have lots of opportunity to socialise with a choice of eleven bars on board. Options include: the Vinoteca Gran Duca di Toscana (wine house) with top quality Italian regional wines, in collaboration with Italy’s most famous wine-growers and producers; the Birreria Dresden Green (beer house) offering a selection of bottled beer by the most prestigious Italian and foreign brands along with a range of draught beers; the Bollicine bar, the ideal place for an aperitif with a wide selection of DOC and DOCG Prosecco of the most prestigious Italian brands and Spritz aperitifs; the Gelateria, with a wide selection of delicious ice-cream, traditional Italian pastries, crepes, hot chocolates and pralines by the ‘Maître Chocolatier’ Andrea Slitti.

Entertainment

On board the new flagship there will also be new forms of fun and entertainment with the debut of the Country Rock Club, the place to go to hear legendary “Classic Rock” music; and the Star Laser room, featuring different styles of interactive laser games including the maze and shooting games, for fun with friends. Guests will also be able to enjoy shows in the three-level theatre, go wild on the dance floor in the Disco and try their luck in the Casino.

Children and adults will be able to enjoy other recreational features such as the 4D Cinema, an exclusive show involving all five senses, and a Grand Prix race car simulator, that simulates races on some of the best international tracks. Video game lovers will be able to dive into the virtual reality of the latest-generation games in the Video Arcade area. Shopaholics will love the Portobello Market Piazza, the heart of a 1,100m2 area consisting of designer stores and retail outlets.

For those who want to enjoy the sun, sea and spectacular ocean vistas, there will be an open-air promenade extending over 500m and three swimming pools, one with a retractable roof offering night entertainment with parties, live music, dances and animation. While parents and grandparents relax and enjoy the cruise, children will have fun in the Squok Club run free of charge by Costa’s professional entertainment staff.

Wellness & Sport

Costa’s Regina del Mediterraneo also offers a unique experience for wellness lovers with the Samsara Spa, located on the upper decks, which will offer guests the chance to enjoy the regenerating experience of a wellness cruise. Costa Diadema’s Samsara Spa is the largest wellness area of Costa’s fleet with 6,200m2 dedicated to relaxation and a wide range of high-quality services and treatments. To enjoy a real wellness cruise, the Samsara Spa offers 130 cabins and 11 suites with direct access to the area. Guests in the Samsara cabins and suites can also dine in the special Samsara restaurant, with menus that put the spotlight on flavour and health. Wellness lovers can also use all the most modern equipment and facilities such as the gym, the spa baths, the thalassotherapy pool, the treatment rooms, the sauna, the Turkish bath, the UVA solarium, the jogging track and the multipurpose court.
