EUROPE 2.0 – *Active, Insightful, Exclusive & Effortless*

Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic has announced Europe 2.0, a series of 22 weeks of carefully curated, perfectly paced one week itineraries with distinct advantages over Europe by any other means.  The notion is to slow down, not cover huge distances, with itineraries that have been designed for guests to experience each destination more actively, insightfully, exclusively and effortlessly.

Europe 2.0 combines the best of independent travel with having someone thoughtfully handle the logistics and ensure unanticipated delights. Lindblad’s newly created Experience Design Team scoured 20 countries, covering more than 10,000 miles to develop the exclusive opportunities – behind-the-scenes visits, dining experiences, concerts and performances, and activities guests would not otherwise experience – everywhere they go.

Each itinerary features a daily menu of possibilities – including genuinely physical and energetic options – presented by an onboard concierge. Choose among visits to farms or vineyards, hikes, cycling trips, and off road treks through the Portuguese countryside. Glide through an ancient city on a Segway, or harness up for a trek across rooftops for a decidedly uncommon view of Stockholm’s beautiful Old Town. Scuba dive at Scotland’s historic Scapa Flow. There’s a natural history component to each day’s possibilities too, and onboard naturalists to make the most of these opportunities. All activities preserve small guest groups of 20 or fewer, with transportation provided by jeeps, vans, antique autos, even tuk tuks.

Excellent historians and regional experts will provide a rich perspective on each region; there will be an onboard National Geographic photographer to help guest improve their skills; and opportunities to meet with Europe’s cultural influencers. Music will be woven throughout, and onboard ethnomusicologist, Jacob Edgar, will provide a genuine gateway into the history, culture and soul of Europe through a series of exclusive performances and special concerts by each region’s top musicians. (video: Jacob Edgar discussing the music component).

The voyages are set aboard the 102-guest National Geographic Orion, the smallest luxury ship navigating Europe’s picturesque coastlines and waterways.  She is the only luxury ship voyaging in Europe with a fleet of bikes, kayaks and Zodiacs onboard, so heading off to fun is uncomplicated.  And from farm-fresh produce to sustainably-raised or line-caught fish, to wines of various terroirs, to ports from the center of port artistry and regional beers, dining aboard will open a window on the flavors of four key regions of Europe.
