Following a highly successful 2012 season in the Baltic, the first time that tall ship specialist Star Clippers has sailed in the region, the company is returning to the region next year, with several new itineraries.

“The inaugural Baltic season for the 170-guest Star Flyer has been a chance for the company to see what passengers enjoy the most, with the programme for 2013 adjusted to meet demand,” explains Star Clippers’ owner Mikael Krafft.

“Many Baltic sailings proved popular in 2012, to the extent that the 10 and 11-night sailings from Stockholm, visiting St Petersburg, sold out very quickly. In response, we have doubled the number of these sailings in 2013 from three to six. Both our repeat guests and the many new guests we have attracted with these sailings love the idea of sailing into some of the world’s most famous ports on a graceful tall ship. St Petersburg is the jewel in the crown for many guests and there is no better way to approach this magnificent city than on Star Flyer, with all guests on deck.”

To enable guests to try out the tall ship experience in the Baltic, more ‘taster’ cruises have been added, with four-night break breaks from Amsterdam to Hamburg in May and Hamburg to Ostend in August. There are also two opportunities to join the famous sailing parades of Germany’s Hanseatic League ports; a three-night stay in Hamburg, and an eight-night round-trip from Travemunde, during which Star Flyer participates in the Rostock Sailing Parade, a magnificent procession of tall ships from all over the world.

“Star Clippers really embodies the spirit of the great clippers and their history and our guests feel very privileged to take part in these events,” says Krafft.

Because Star Flyer is much smaller than conventional cruise ships, itineraries include charming, out-of-the-way ports like Karlskrona and Sandhamm in Sweden, where big ships will never go, creating a real feeling of immersion in the destination.

“The Swedes are sailing-mad for a reason,” concludes Krafft. “The sailing conditions here are fantastic, with reliable wind and stunning scenery, not to mention the fact that the sun barely sets for much of the summer. This is the reason that in addition to attracting clients who want to visit the famous ports, we’re also attracting guests who simply love sailing.”

A three-night experience of the Hamburg Sailing Parade on Star Flyer starts from £690, including port charges, cruise only, departing May 9, 2013.
